Pastor Major W. Burrell

Major W. Burrell is the highly esteemed pastor/teacher of the Peace Missionary Baptist Church (Pratt City) Birmingham, Alabama. Moreover, he is a gifted teacher, preacher, and administrator with the God given ability to exegete sacred scripture.

He is an honor graduate of Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama, 1979, where he majored in elementary education and minored in special education. In 1982, he received the Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center (Morehouse School of Religion), Atlanta, Georgia. Furthermore, in December 2005, he received the certification in Education Administration from Alabama State University. Further studies have been done at the University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey.

Pastor Burrell has served in the United States Army 1982-1984 in the Rank of Captain while stationed at Fort Stewart Georgia and a member of the First Brigade 2-34 Mechanized Infantry Battalion under the command of General Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf Jr. He has also served as a part-time instructor at Selma University, Selma, Alabama teaching New Testament Studies, Baptist History and Christian Ethics. Presently, he serves as a part-time instructor in the Department of Religion at the Birmingham Theological Seminary (BTS), Birmingham, Alabama.

The “VISION” of Pastor Burrell and the Peace Missionary Baptist Church family is to build a new modern church facility for worship and cutting edge ministries to better serve the Birmingham community and beyond.

Recognizing the multiplicity of needs for effective and efficient ministry throughout the city of Birmingham, Alabama, pastor Burrell has formulated a non-profit community development corporation. Under his spiritual and creative leadership, a board of directors has been established as well as various ministries to address the sock-economic needs of the community. Pastor Burrell embraces these few prophetic words, which says, “Where there is no VISION the people perish…” Proverbs 29:18.

A true servant of God, he has served as pastor of the Peace Missionary Baptist Church since 1985. “To God be the Glory for the GREAT THINGS He has done!”
